Observers are interested in GenAI’s potential and are considering how they can best use it to their advantage. They work for organizations where GenAI hasn’t been implemented, or only minimally, but the vast majority show interest in adopting the technology when the time is right. Along with working towards their first pilot tests and use cases, most Observers’ organizations need to prepare for GenAI regulation, establish governance frameworks and build training programs for staff in order to start effectively and responsibly harnessing the power of this new technology.

Explorers are actively investigating GenAI and beginning to implement these new technologies. They work for organizations which are running initial tests into GenAI or have implemented it in key departments, and have widespread plans for future investment. In line with the early stages of implementation, most are moderately prepared for GenAI regulation and are still developing their governance and training programs. Some Explorers will already be seeing some business improvements from GenAI investigation and integration, and others will be acutely aware of its potential.

GenAI Leaders are at the cutting edge of GenAI adoption. They work for organizations which are committed to integrating GenAI, are investing to make sure they are compliant with regulation, and have either fully implemented the tech or are running advanced tests across multiple departments. And on the whole, they're already seeing significant business improvements from GenAI integration.
